Review: Existence By Abbi Glines

By Abbi Glines Existence (Volume 1) [Paperback] - Abbi Glines

Goodreads summary of Existence-

What happens when you're stalked by Death? You fall in love with him, of course.

Pagan Moore doesn't cheat Death, but instead, falls in love with him.

Seventeen year old Pagan Moore has seen souls her entire life. Once she realized the strangers she often saw walking through walls were not visible to anyone else, she started ignoring them. If she didn't let them know she could see them, then they left her alone. Until she stepped out of her car the first day of school and saw an incredibly sexy guy lounging on a picnic table, watching her with an amused smirk on his face. Problem is, she knows he's dead.

Not only does he not go away when she ignores him, but he does something none of the others have ever done. He speaks. Pagan is fascinated by the soul. What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.

He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

So going into this book I was a bit hesitant because I had read The Vincent Boys which is the first book in the The Vincent Boys series and the story did not live up to my expectations. Then I read the first two books in the Too Far trilogy/ first two  books in the Rosemary Beach series. I loved it, I loved  everything about. It is now one of my favorite trilogies. Another reason I was weary about this book because it is a bit of a fantasy book, with voodoo and ghosts.  Instead I ended up liking so much that it is now another favorite book.

One thing I love in this book is the fantasy/supernatural  aspect. With the fact that Pagan can see ghosts is just the beginning. There are many different things she deals with such as deities from heaven and hell. Also there is death who shows her the importance of life and death.

The characters and their relationships are another reason I love this trilogy. Our main character is Pagan Moore who is a high school student who can see ghosts and they don't talk back but one does. She has to deal with high school and secrets about her past and those around her. There is her best friends Miranda & Wyatt who are super supportive since they were little. Whyatt and Miranda have a super complicated history because they have dated on and off for a while. There is Leif Montgomery a classmate of Pagan’s who is super popular who Pagan tutors throughout the first book. He also shows interest in Pagan and also has a huge secret. Then there is the super hot guy that moves to town and shakes up her life even more. Dank Walker is singer of the popular band Cold Soul and he also resembles the ghost that visits Pagan is that the coincidence?

For the first book was Amazing intro to world with meeting Dank and his life. Then how she introduced pagans life and relationships were amazing. How she has Pagan fall for death is amazing. Then how Pagan likes Leif and dates him only to pine for Dank. I loved the scene at the end where Gee is there and It could be the end of the world. Finally Pagan chose Death and admits she loves him. So her and Dank reunite after Pagan thought he was gone. When she returns to school to break up with Leif he has gone missing. Dank tells Pagan that he is not who she thinks he is. He is an evil voodoo prince who has no soul. OK when I finished this book I about had a panic attack because the cliffhanger with Leif being evil. I never saw it coming. Then Gee being good, instead of the crazy schizophrenic we thought she was and they became unexpected friends. I love how Pagan escapes destiny of her death and how it happens multiple times. I also loved just the beginning of their relationship the kind of l like you, but I see a ghost like you so I will keep my distance to I love you Dank even though you are Death and I hate when people die.

(show spoiler)

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this book for any one who likes Abbi Glines and if you like story's about ghosts, evil spirits and Death himself. If you like Abbi Glines, but are hesitant don't be this book is just as good as her others. Overall a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
